We have
Length of cardboard    ℓ     = 9 cm
breadth                 b     = 6 cm
Area            ℓ × b     = 9 × 6 = 54 sq. cm
Now,
Diameter of greatest possible circle is     
= breadth of card board
= 6 cm
∴   Radius r  = 3 cm
   Area of circle    = πr2
                = p (3)2 s.q c.m.
                = 9π cm2
 Remaining area = Area of cardboard – Area of circle
            = (54 – 9π) cm2
            = 9 (6 – π) cm2
