In the given sentence, which is in active voice: 'Harry' is the subject and 'gate of the chamber' is the object. The main verb is 'open'.
The object of the verb in the active voice becomes the subject in the passive voice. i.e. The phrase, 'gate of the chamber' becomes the subject in the passive voice. As the sentence is in simple past tense, the auxiliary verb 'was' is to be used along with the subject in the passive voice. The past participle form of the main verb (opened) is to be used.
Option A is incorrect as the auxiliary 'did' is used instead of 'was'.
Option B is incorrect as the auxiliary 'were' can be used only with a plural subject. In the passive voice, the subject (gate of the chamber) is in singular form. Hence, 'was' has to be used.
Option C: Here, the phrase 'gate of the chamber' is the subject. The auxiliary 'was' is used along with the singular subject. The past participle form of the verb (opened) is used. Hence, this option is correct.
Option D is incorrect as option C is the correct answer.
