Let (x,y,z) be a point with the sum of whose distance from (4,0,0) and (4,0,0) is equal to 10. By using the distance formula between two points we have

 (x4)2+(y0)2+(z0)2+(x+4)2+(y0)2+(z0)2=10

By rearranging and squaring we get

(x4)2+y2+z2=100+(x+4)2+y2+z220(x+4)2+y2+z2

By cancellation,

20(x+4)2+y2+z2=16x+100

Dividing by 4,

5(x+4)2+y2+z2=4x+25

Square both sides,

25(x2+8x+16+y2+z2)=16x2+200x+625

9x2+25y2+25z2=225.
