Question

Let f, g and h be real-valued functions defined on the interval [0, 1] by f(x)=ex2+ex2,g(x)=xex2+ex2  and  h(x)=x2ex2+ex2 . If a, b and c denote respectively, the absolute maximum of f, g and h on [0, 1], then

a = b = c

a = b and c  b

 a b and c b

a = c and a  b

Solution

 f(x)=ex2+ex2

 f'(x)=2xex22xex2

 f'(x)=2x(ex2ex2)

 f'(x)>0   x[0,1]

 so,  f(x)]max=e+1e=a

 g(x)=xex2+ex2

 g'(x)=2x2ex2+ex22xex2

 g'(x)>0   x[0,1]

 g(x)]max=e+1e=b

 h(x)=x2ex2+ex2

 h'(x)=2x3ex2+2xex22xex2

 h'(x)>0   x[0,1]

h (x)]max = h(1) =  e +  = c

so,       a = b = c Ans.
