Question

The instantaneous voltages at three terminal marked X, Y and Z are given by

VX = V0 sin wt,

VY = V0 sin (ωt+2π3) and

VZ = V0 sin (ωt+4π3)

An ideal voltmeter is configured to read rms value of the potential difference between its termials. It is connected between X and Y and then between Y and Z. The reading(s) of the voltmeter will be

independent of the choice of the two terminals

VXYrms=V032

VXYrms=V0

VYZrms=V012

Solution

(B) VX = V0 sin wt

VY = V0 sin (ωt+2π3)

VZ = V0 sin (ωt+4π3)

VXY = VY – VX

VXY = 3 V0 (vectors cally)d

(Vrms)XY = 3V02

(D) (Vrms)XY = (Vrms)YZ = (Vrms)XZ

i.e. it does not depends upon the position where we are inserting the keys.
