Poisson's ratio is defined as 
σ=Δd/dΔℓ/ or Δℓ=Δd/dσ 
where d is the diameter and ℓ is the length of the wire. The area of cross-section is 
A=πr2=πd24 
 or logA=logπ4+2logd 
Differentiating, we have 
ΔAA=2ΔDD 
 or    Δdd=12ΔAA=12×2%=1% 

 (  ΔAA=2%,given) 
   Using this in (i) we have 
Δℓ=1%0.4=2.5%
