Question

The value of [H3O+] and [OH] ions in 0.001M HCl and 0.001M NaOH solutions will be -

[H3O+] = 2.0 × 10– 3g ion/litre

[OH] = 2.0 × 10– 14 g ion/litre

[H3O+]  = 12.4 × 10– 3 g ion/litre

[OH] = 2.0 × 10– 3 g ion/litre

[H3O+] = 1.0 × 10– 3 g ion/litre

[OH] = 1.0 × 10– 3 g ion/litre

[H3O+]  = 1.0 × 10–3 g ion/litre

[OH]   = 1.0 × 10–14 g ion/litre

Solution

The value of H3O+ ions in 0.001M HCl = 1.0 × 103
g ion/litre. Because HCl is a monobasic acid so it gives one hydrogen ion per molecule. So by 0.001M (10–3M) HCl, H+ ions are given = 10– 3 g ion/litre.NaOH also gives one OH¯ ion /molecule. In the same way by 0.001M NaOH, OH¯ ions are given = 1.0 × 10–3 g ion litre.
