A 3kg object moving at 8 m/s in positive x direction has one dimensional elastic collision with an object of mass M initially at rest. After the collision, object of mass M has velocity of 6 m/s in positive x direction. What is M (in kg)?

3 × 8 = 6 × M + 3v
e=1=6v80
⇒     6 – v = 8
        v = – 2
⇒     24 = 6M – 6 
        6M = 30
