A disc of mass 'm' is connected to an  ideal spring of force constant 'k'. If disc is released from rest. What is maximum friction force on disc during subsequent motion. Assuming friction is sufficient for pure rolling. Take : mass of disc = 1 kg, Radius of disc = 10 cm, Angle of incline = 37°.

From work energy theorem maximum extension of spring is xm 

        mgxmsinθ=12kxm2

or    xm=2mgsinθk

At lower extreme position
        kxm – mgsinθ – f = ma         ....(i)            
         a = Rα                                ....(ii)

        fxR=mR22α                  ....(iii)

Thus     F=mgsinθ3=1×10×3/53=2N
