A student connected two bulbs in two different combinations as shown in figure A and B. Observe the figure and answer the following questions:
a. Name the type of combination of the bulbs in figure A.
b. Name the type of combination of the bulbs in figure B.
c. State the combination in which the resistance will be decreased.

a. In figure A bulbs are connected as a series combination as they are connected one by one.
b. In figure B bulbs are connected as a parallel combination as they are connected across the same voltage.
c. In the parallel combination, the net resistance will be less.

Proof :
Let two identical resistances (R and R) are connected in series. Then the equivalent resistance will be Rs = R + R 2R
Now, let the resistances are connected in parallel. So, the equivalent resistance is Rp=R×RR+R=R2
So, it is clear that Rp < Rs.
