Transpiration is the process of release of water vapour from the pores of the plants.

Types of transpiration :
(1) Stomatal transpiration
(2) Lenticular transpiration
(3) Cuticular transpiration
(4) Bark transpiration
Mechanism of transpiration :
The water needs appropriate conditions to get converted into vapour which is provided by the energy of sunlight as well as the heat of the plant organs. The atmosphere of has very low water potential. All these conditions favour formation of water vapours. The intercellular spaces of the transpiring organs are mostly filled with and saturated with water vapours. These vapours are released into the atmosphere. The neighbouring cells lose their water to produce vapours and in turn they take up water from the xylem tissues.
