Spirogyra is an aquatic plant. The body of the plant is filamentous and unbranched. There are multiple cells which are arranged linearly in the filament. The cell wall is made up of cellulose and pectose. There is mucilage which is present surrounding the cell wall. There is a single large nucleus which is suspended in the cytoplasm. There are many vacuoles. There is spiral shaped, coiled strands of chloroplasts which fill the entire cell. There are many pyrenoids which are used for the storage of food.
