Photorespiration is a wasteful process which occurs due to attachment of oxygen at the active site of enzyme RuBisCO instead of carbon dioxide. Phosphoglycolate is formed in place of 3-phosphoglycerate. It takes place in the chloroplasts, leaf peroxisomes and mitochondria. Two molecules of glycine combine in mitochondria during photorespiration and form serine and release one CO2
