Wood burns to leave behind undesirable substances, so it is not environment friendly. Wood is not always easy to burn and has a lower calorific value than most other fuels we use today. So, it is definitely not an ideal fuel. But even then people in villages use wood as a fuel mostly because of its easy availability and low cost.
