Ans ⇒ given, (8,–7,9), (5,2,4) & (6,–1,2) ax collinear.

Let A ≡ (8,–7,a), B ≡ (5,2,h), C ≡ (6,–1,2)

⇒  points A,B,C are collinear.

⇒  Dirction ratio of AB = AC

⇒  AB = [(5 – 8),(2 + 7),(h – a)] ⇒  [–3,9,4– a]

⇒  AC = [(6 – 8),(–1 + 7),(2 – a)] ⇒  [–2,6,2 – a])

from eqns (t),AB = AC

32=96=4a2a

32=ha2a

3(2 – a) = 2(4 – a)

6 – 3a = 8 – 2a

–3a + 2a = 8 – 6

–a = 2

∴   a = –2
