Question

Two balls marked 1 and 2 of the same mass m and a third ball marked 3 of mass M are arranged over a smooth horizontal surface as shown in figure. Ball 1 moves with a velocity v1 towards ball 2 and 3. All collisions are assumed to be elastic.

Ball 1 collies with 2 & comes to rest and taken 2 & 3 collies so two collision are sure. Now if m < m final velocity of ball 2 is towards right so only two collis will take p/a if m > m velocities of ball 2 is toward left so a third collision b/w ball 2 & 1 will also take plance.
