Answer: When the sun got low, the king's son asked Jack where they could lodge that night, since they had no money.
Explanation: When we report a sentence in our own words or without quoting the exact words of the speaker, it is called Indirect Speech.
Here, quoted sentence or reported clause is in the form of question, so the reporting verb 'asked' will come. Since there are two clauses in quoted words, tense of one of them changes from present perfect to past perfect. Another contains the modal can so, it will changed into could. 'We' will change into 'they' i.e. third person. Moreover, the question begins from an interrogative word like when, where etc so, that word will remain same.
 Note:- When the question is not introduced by an interrogative word, the reporting verb is followed by whether or if.
