CH₃–CH₂–Cl on reaction with KCN / DMSO gives CH₃ – CH₂ – $\stackrel{+}{\mathrm{N}}$$\equiv$C¯ as major product.

S-Butan-2-ol gives S-2-chloro butane on reaction with SOCl₂ / Pyridine
