Mitochondria is the site of aerobic respiration.
During respiration after the glycolysis, link reaction and Krebs cycle occur in the mitochondria itself.
And during the process of respiration, the ultimate goal is to produce ATP which is known as the fundamental energy currency of the cell.
That's the reason why mitochondria is known as the 'Powerhouse' of the cell.
