Solution
Saponification is the name for a chemical reaction for the formation of soap between fatty acid and a base to form a salt (the soap).
Limitations of soap :
(1) Do not form lather (foam) in hard water. They form scum
(2) Scum formation makes washing of clothes difficult and also affects color of the fabric.
(3) Not suitable for certain fabrics such as silk, wool as the base spoils these fabrics.
